How to Avoid Laziness before Exams

Laziness is something all of us have experienced and we cannot deny the fact that we tend to feel lazy when there is something important that has to be completed.  Students experience this laziness when exams are near approaching and they have to study hard to get good grades.  Feeling lazy is natural and can be dealt with.  Laziness and procrastination go hand-in-hand and are considered to be a deadly combination, thereby students should give these tips and tricks a try and feel the difference-

1. Finding a comfortable spot- It is always suggested that students should find a comfortable spot for studying and make sure that the spot they choose is their favorite place to sit.  Different studies have shown that the place of working/studying has a great impact on the speed of understanding and interest building.  A relaxed mind learns better and thereby finding this comfortable spot is necessary.

2. Preparing to-do-list- A to-do-list is nothing but a simple list of all those things and tasks that have to be completed.  Writing down all those things which have to be completed within a given period of time acts as a constant reminder to complete the pending work and is a source of motivation as well as satisfaction when the task is completed.

3. Preparing a study plan- Planning the day helps students in monitoring the progress throughout the day and also acts as a self-checking mechanism.   A study plan helps students in staying on the right track and prepare well for the exams.

4. Staying away from distractions- Distraction is anything that results in diversion of focus and hinders the process of studying.  Students should try and stay away from all sorts of distractions.  It is suggested that one can switch off their phone, avoid watching TV, or can cut off the internet when they are studying.  It is a well-proven fact that it takes 21 days to develop a habit; thereby the habit of staying away from distractions can also be developed.

5. Self-Motivation- Motivation can be sourced from within, a student has to always remind himself/herself that the end result of effort and dedication is always a success.  There should be a motivation to achieve and perform better.

6. Finishing easier tasks first- Doing easier tasks first can prove to be a smart move because a feeling of accomplishment can help students in staying motivated.  It is similar to solving the easier problems first and then moving on to the tough ones and staying curious as well as motivated through the process.  Not only this, but this trick helps in covering the syllabus faster.

7. Discipline is the key- It is important for students to discipline themselves because hard work paves the way for success and to put in the desired hard work, one has to be disciplined and self-regulated.  Getting rid of the habits that pull you back can be the first step towards the achievement of this discipline.

8. Rewarding yourself- overcoming laziness is nothing but building up a mindset, it should be ensured by students that every time they strike off a task from the to-do list they should treat or reward themselves with something good.  The sense of accomplishing something good after completing the tasks can help students in fighting laziness.

9. Taking healthy breaks- for breaking monotony and to avoid getting tired easily, one should keep taking breaks and this is the reason why these breaks are termed as “healthy breaks”.  It should also be ensured that a break is taken for a fixed period of time only during which one can relax and rejuvenate for studying again.

10. Proper sleep- It is a myth that those who study for 18 hours are the ones who succeed, but it should be realized that studying judiciously for a good number of hours along with 6-7 hours of sleep is enough.  Without sleeping properly, students get tired easily and thereby aren’t able to study with focus and efficiency.

By keeping in mind the above-mentioned tips and tricks, students have overcome the laziness that disturbs the studying pattern during exams.  Dedication and hard work pave the way for success and students should not let laziness stand in the way of that.  As the famous saying goes, “that nothing is impossible”, similarly overcoming laziness is also possible.
