10 Tips to Increase your Child’s Concentration

Children are curious learners and are distracted in fractions of seconds.  They tend to shift their focus from a non-interesting thing to an interesting one that involves fun and is playful. Parents and teachers have a hard time ensuring that a child is paying attention and is concentrating on what is being said or taught.  Special techniques and tricks should be used by parents and teachers to ensure that children are paying attention and are able to concentrate.  Getting into the habit of concentrating on important things right from the beginning can help the children in achieving success as well as academic excellence.  Here are 10 master tips that can be put to use in order to increase the concentration level of children.

1. Removing the distractions- as mentioned earlier that children get distracted very easily; thereby it is important for parents as well as teachers to ensure that they remove any possible distraction from the place where the children are studying.  Distraction could be anything like television, mobile phone, or toys and should be kept far away while the children are trying to study or finish their homework.

2. Making the work look easier- children often lose the power of concentration when they find the task at hand difficult, therefore it should be ensured that bigger tasks are broken down into easier and smaller tasks.  By making the work look easier it can be ensured that the feeling of satisfaction while completing the work in bits is felt by children and they are enjoying the tasks at hand.

3. Mixing learning with fun- children like to play and are always up for having fun, therefore parents and teachers should make sure that they mix fun with learning.  For instance, one can teach their child about the alphabets by drawing them out on the sand or with the help of clay.  This has been observed that by mixing fun with learning, children are able to focus better.

4. Rewards- rewarding children for completing work on time can help them in completing the tasks on time and with accuracy.  Everyone likes appreciation and thereby the practice of rewarding after competing work can prove to increase the level of concentration with which children work.  These rewards can be as simple as a star on their hand or a toffee.

5. Taking breaks while studying- taking breaks while studying can help children in concentrating better because these breaks can act as a breather and refreshment time.  Making children sit for long hours never helps, instead, it makes them irritant, and thereby parents and teachers should let them have healthy breaks while studying.

6. Fixing a schedule– when parents and teachers fix a schedule for children to follow then they eventually get into the habit of working according to the same.  Fixed hours of studying have proved to be an effective way to teach children the importance of discipline.  This practice thereby helps them in building concentration because the mind is prepared to sit back and study in those fixed hours daily.

7. Eating healthy food- it has been observed that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, thereby parents should make sure that their children have healthy food and are not consuming junk food on a regular basis.  Junk food can affect the functioning of the body and is considered a source of laziness.  Children should eat green vegetables and fresh fruits to strengthen their concentration power.

8. Making use of different ways of teaching and explaining- children are curious learners and learn faster when taught by using creative ways.  Parents and teachers can make use of audio and videos to make the learning process smoother and interesting.

9. Story-telling and story-narration- children enjoy listening to stories, they are always fascinated by the world of fairies and superheroes.  Parents and teachers should make the story narration and story reading an important element of the day because for listening to a story narration, one needs to have strong concentration power.  Thereby, readings and story-telling can help children in mastering concentration and understanding power.

10. Relaxing time- studying and finishing homework is as important as resting.  Children should be offered enough time to rest and parents should never burden them with excessive work and unrealistic expectations.  A relaxed mind works and functions better and thereby children are able to concentrate on studying.

The above-mentioned points should be kept in mind by parents and teachers because most habits are adopted by children in the early stages of learning and thereby having an ability to concentrate well can help students in achieving academic excellence.
